Neues Ufer Formerly: Anderes Ufer

(1 Rating)
David Bowie's old haunt

Gay history dates this possibly first-of-its-kind café-cum-bar dinosaur as early 1970s, when (until 2003) it went by the name Anderes Ufer. Now a relaxing daytime option that gets a bit more frisky after sundown, it rightfully clings to its place in pop history asserting that David Bowie — a Berlin fixture for three years in the mid-70s — allegedy used to come in for a shot of whiskey when he lived a few doors down. Neues Ufer ('New Shore') is a variation on the bar's previous name 'Anderes Ufer' (Other Shore — a kind of code for the gay persuasion).
