Blockbuster 357-room hotel that towers conspicuously above gay Schöneberg at the top of Martin-Lurther-Straße, within seconds of both the Motzstraße and the Fuggerstraße. Opened in September 2015 following extensive renovation — the Riu was built in the 1970s, as an office block — this is the first European city outlet for this chain of hotels started in 1953 in Mallorca by the Riu family, now overseen by its third generation. A downside for some is that it lacks the walls of a purpose-built hotel, which means that certain noises will carry. Other warning: this is a family-friendly hotel. The hotel's logo is visible while standing outside nearby bar New Action [see entry].
